Below are some key points and steps from the User Manual that apply to all bikes!

Unboxing

Congratulations on your purchase of a new Lectric eBike!

Inside the box, you will find your new bike, a charger, keys, and a digital user manual. Before removing the packaging material from the bike, remove all items from the box and make sure everything listed above is present. If anything is missing or damaged contact Lectric eBikes immediately for assistance.

The bike may require adjustments upon being received and unboxed, as shipping can sometimes be bumpy. When doing your first adjustment and inspecting the bike before riding, we recommend seeking professional help from a reputable, certified bicycle mechanic.

Follow the instructions in your user manual to set up your bike and insert the handlebars, seat post, or other unassembled components depending on the model of the bike. For more information please refer to the ‘Getting Started’ section in the user manual.

Inspection

1. Check that the tire and the tire bead are seated just inside the rim. Inflate your bike tires to a pressure that is within the recommended range printed on the side of the bike tire sidewalls. When inflating, gradually inflate in 5-10PSI increments while checking to make sure the tire bead is fully seated on the rim. If you notice the tire bead is not fully seated at any point during inflation, deflate the tire completely and reseat the tire bead before reinflating.

2. Check your seat post clamp and, if featured on your model, the handlebar stem quick-releases. Unlatch the quick releases and tighten by turning the bolt clockwise. Make sure all quick releases are tightened to the torque listed in the Recommended Torque Values section of the manual. The page number of this section can be found by referring to the table of contents at the beginning of the manual.

3. Ensure your seat post and handlebar stem are inserted past their minimum insertion points as indicated by the markings on them. Reference the ‘Preparing to Ride’ section of the manual for photos and complete instructions. Failure to insert past the minimum insertion point will place undue stress on these components increasing the risk of sudden failure potentially resulting in harm, injury, or death.

4. If you have a folding eBike, check to make sure your frame folding latch and handlebar folding latch are locked. Reference the ‘Folding and Unfolding the Bike’ section of the manual for photos and complete instructions. The page number of this section can be found by referring to the table of contents at the beginning of the manual. Double-check to make sure both latches are secure and locked before riding. Failure to do so may result in the bike folding while in use potentially causing serious harm to the rider.

Turn the bike on

5. Ensure your battery is fully charged before your first ride.

7. If the battery is not already inside the bike or on the mount, slide it inside of the frame or on the mount and lock it in position. Once the battery is secured, insert the key into the battery via the port (for the XP Lite & XP 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0s, the key port will be on the underbelly of the frame). See the Battery section of the manual for further information on the operation of the battery.

8. Push the key in firmly. Turn the key to lock the battery to the bike, and turn it to the ON position. You will not be able to remove the keys on certain models of Lectric eBikes.

9. Hold down the power button on the button pad located on the left side of the handlebars until the display comes on.

Operating your bike

10. Select a level of pedal assist using the plus and minus buttons on the button pad. Pedal assist level 1 is the lowest level of assist and pedal assist level 5 is the highest level of assist. Level zero will provide no assistance.

11. The handlebar features a throttle. To operate the throttle, ensure the pedal assist level is set above 0, then engage the throttle slowly according to how much speed and acceleration you want to achieve. The farther you twist or push on the throttle from its resting position, the more power propels the bike forward. When the bike is at a complete stop, turn the display off. This will ensure that the motor will not activate until the display is turned back on and the rider is ready to go.
Note: Exercise extreme caution using the throttle. When at a complete stop with the bike turned on, be careful not to engage the throttle unknowingly or the bike could throw you off balance and cause serious harm, injury, or death.

12. To turn on the headlight and tail light, press and hold the plus button on the button pad. The battery must be on in order for the headlight to work.

Now you’re ready to ride! Happy trails!

FAQ

Trike FAQ

Are electric trikes safe for seniors?

Electric trikes are generally considered safe for seniors due to their stability, ease of use, and comfortable riding experience. The three-wheel design provides improved balance and stability compared to traditional ebikes, reducing the risk of tipping over, especially for riders who may have mobility or balance issues.

What is the difference between an ebike and an etrike?

The primary difference between an ebike and an electric trike lies in their design and configuration. While both ebikes are equipped with electric motors to assist with pedaling, ebikes typically have two wheels and resemble traditional bicycles, whereas electric trikes have three wheels, with two wheels at the rear and one wheel at the front. This trike configuration offers increased stability and load-carrying capacity, making electric trikes suitable for a wider range of riders, including seniors and individuals with mobility challenges.

How fast do electric trikes go?

The speed of electric trikes can vary depending on factors such as motor power, battery capacity, and local regulations. On average, electric trikes can reach speeds of up to 15 to 20 miles per hour when assisted by the electric motor. Our XP Electric Trike has been speed tested as a Class 2 eBike.

FAQ

What exactly is an eBike?

An ebike, short for electric bike, is a bicycle equipped with an electric motor that provides propulsion assistance to the rider. Unlike traditional bicycles that rely solely on human pedaling power, ebikes feature an integrated electric motor that assists the rider’s pedaling efforts, making it easier to pedal and allowing for greater speed and distance with less exertion. The level of assistance provided by the electric motor can typically be adjusted by the rider, allowing for customizable riding experiences tailored to individual preferences and riding conditions. Ebikes are increasingly popular for commuting, recreation, and fitness, offering an eco-friendly and efficient mode of transportation.

How do eBikes work?

Ebikes, short for electric bikes, work by combining traditional pedal power with an electric motor to provide assistance to the rider. Here’s how they typically work:

• Pedal Assistance: Most ebikes are equipped with a pedal-assist system (PAS) that detects when the rider is pedaling and provides additional power from the electric motor to assist the rider’s effort. The level of assistance can usually be adjusted using a control panel or display on the handlebars.
• Electric Motor: Ebikes are powered by an electric motor, which is usually located either in the hub of one of the wheels (hub motor) or near the crankset (mid-drive motor). When activated, the motor provides assistance to the pedals, making it easier for the rider to pedal and maintain speed, especially when going uphill or against strong winds.
• Battery: The electric motor is powered by a rechargeable battery, typically mounted on the frame of the bike. The battery’s capacity determines the range and duration of assistance provided by the motor. Riders can usually choose from different power levels or modes to adjust the amount of assistance based on their preferences and riding conditions.
• Control and Display: Many ebikes feature a control panel or display on the handlebars, allowing riders to monitor and adjust settings such as power level, battery status, and speed. Some ebikes also come with additional features like built-in lights, USB charging ports, and smartphone connectivity.

Overall, ebikes offer a versatile and efficient mode of transportation, combining the benefits of traditional cycling with the convenience and assistance of electric power. They’re suitable for a wide range of riders, from commuters looking to navigate city streets to outdoor enthusiasts exploring off-road trails.

How do I ride? Do I have to pedal?

All Lectric eBikes can be ridden in three different ways:

1. Pedaling without any motor assist (as a regular bicycle)
2. Pedaling with motor assist (five levels of assist)
3. Pure throttle

How fast does an eBike go?

The speed of an ebike can vary depending on several factors, including the type of motor, battery power, and local regulations. Most ebikes are designed to assist riders up to a certain speed, typically between 20 to 28 miles per hour, known as the pedal-assist speed limit. However, some ebikes can reach higher speeds, especially those designed for off-road or performance-oriented riding. It’s important to check local regulations regarding ebike speed limits, as they may vary depending on the region.

What are the different classifications of ebikes?

There are generally three classifications of ebikes based on their power assistance levels:

• Class 1: Pedal Assist (Pedelec) – These ebikes provide assistance only when the rider is pedaling and typically have a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph (32 km/h). They are equipped with a motor that provides assistance proportional to the rider’s pedaling effort.
• Class 2: Throttle Assist – These ebikes feature a throttle that allows the rider to engage the motor without pedaling. They also have a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph (32 km/h), but the motor can be activated independently of pedaling.
• Class 3: Speed Pedelec- Similar to Class 1 ebikes, these models provide pedal assistance but with a higher maximum assisted speed of 28 mph (45 km/h). They are designed for faster commuting and recreational riding but may be subject to specific regulations and restrictions in some areas.

These classifications may vary slightly depending on local regulations and laws governing ebike use in different regions. It’s essential to familiarize yourself with the specific classifications and regulations applicable to your location when choosing an ebike

Do you need a license to drive an ebike?

In many regions, you do not need a license to ride an ebike, especially if it meets certain criteria regarding power and speed. However, regulations vary depending on the country, state/province, and local jurisdiction. Generally, low-speed ebikes that have a maximum assisted speed of around 20 mph and a motor power output below a certain threshold may not require a license. It’s important to check the specific laws and regulations in your area to determine whether a license is required for riding an ebike. Additionally, some regions may have age restrictions or other requirements for operating an ebike on public roads or trails.

Do eBikes need insurance?

Whether ebikes require insurance depends on various factors, including local laws, the type of ebike, and how it’s used. In many places, ebikes are treated similarly to traditional bicycles, which typically do not require insurance for personal use. However, certain circumstances may warrant insurance coverage:

• Riding on public roads: If you ride your ebike on public roads, some jurisdictions may require liability insurance, especially if the ebike is capable of higher speeds or is classified as a motor vehicle.
• Ebikes with higher power or speed: In some regions, ebikes that exceed certain power or speed limits may be classified as mopeds or motorcycles, requiring insurance coverage similar to motor vehicles.
• Accidents and liability: While insurance may not be legally required, having coverage can provide financial protection in case of accidents, damage, or liability claims involving your ebike.
• Theft and damage: Insurance coverage can also help protect against theft, vandalism, or damage to your ebike, similar to coverage for other valuable possessions.

Before purchasing insurance for your ebike, it’s essential to research and understand the specific requirements and options available in your area. Consulting with insurance providers knowledgeable about ebike coverage can help you determine the appropriate level of protection based on your needs and usage patterns.
